As part of our #OperationTravellerVote campaign we are hosting an online launch event with the Electoral Commission. The Electoral Commission do essential work promoting public confidence in the electoral process and will present information to the communities on: We will also be joined by community members who will talk about why it's important for our community members to use their voices in the democratic process. The event is live on our Eventbrite – share with your networks or come along with us. The Traveller Movements 2024 Manifesto is almost ready to be published. Keep an eye on all our socials for its release.

The Democracy Champions will be offered sessional work over the course of the project and will support their local communities to register to vote by helping community members to fill in forms, attend local appointments and host informational workshops in their local areas. We’ll be sharing further information on this over the next few weeks. Senior Policy Officer at the Irish Embassy
| |
Our Senior Policy Officer spoke at the Irish Embassy this month on a panel at an event organised by Irish in Britain. The event celebrated the launch of Irish in Britain's Census 2021 report, the report tells the story of the significant Irish community here, enabling organisations across the country to plan their services, supports & activities. Our policy officer focused on the representation of Irish Traveller and Romani (Gypsy) communities in the census. The discussion highlighted the importance of accurate and inclusive census data, and the ongoing efforts to ensure these communities are properly represented and their voices heard.

This month, our policy officer visited Naburn Primary School in York, where the principal is an exemplary model of best practices in education. This engagement was incredibly insightful and provided us with valuable strategies that can enhance our initiatives. Some key learnings from the schools' practices surround effective parent engagement and catch-up programmes for children who do travel during the school term.

As part of our ongoing sector capacity building work we held our second Know Your Rights session of 2024 in April, in partnership with Dan Rosenberg from Simpson and Millar. The session went well and covered a range of topics including school admissions & exclusions, SEND learners and general questions around education. We also recently held our third Know Your Rights session on the 7th of May, with Clare Cruise from Southwark Law Centre. This time we spoke all about school attendance and home education. We will be running one more Know Your Rights session in May. Please see below for more information: To sign up for your FREE place for the above event, please visit our Eventbrite page here. Moving forward all of these event recordings will be shared on our social media platforms. We don’t currently have any events planned after our fourth session, but if you have any ideas on what you’d like to see from us next, drop us a line and we’ll be happy to explore it!
